Safeguarding at the Academy

We make a point of ensuring all our visitors have badges identifying them as visitors or volunteers and all visitors come in through the main reception door.  All school staff, volunteers and Management Board are DBS checked and adhere to the Part 1 of DfE's "Keeping Children Safe in Education" publication.

School gates are locked from 9am and opened again just prior to the end of the day.  All outer doors are secured with an electronic lock that can only be accessed with a fob.  Only regular members of staff are issued with a fob.  Please do not ask any child at Beacon Academy to allow you access to the building.

Our Senior Designated Officer for child protection is Mrs Dixon.  Mrs Bussell, Mr Hardwidge and Ms Fox have also been trained by the Local Authority as Senior Designated Officers and we continue to have their training updated every 2 years.  The Senior Designated Officer in the Nursery provision is Ms Fox.

All staff are trained annually on Safeguarding, Child Protection and e-Safety - the latest being August 2017.

The children are taught about safe internet use and this training is extended to parents too.

Newsletters contain updates and information on internet safety.

The majority of our staff receive regular Team Teach training; this enables positive handling to be effective within our school.  The school's preferred method of helping children to manage their behaviour is through de-escalation techniques which means to talk to children to calm them.

We follow the 'Class Dojo' behaviour system, with '123 Magic' Behaviour Management strategies at lunchtimes.  We encourage support for the strategy and also offer training for parents regularly.
