Attendance

At our Academy we promote good attendance to enable pupils to take full advantage of the educational opportunities we offer. Our Attendance Team monitors attendance and punctuality regularly and works closely with families to support good attendance.  Last year’s school attendance level was 94.47% for the whole school.  Our target, set by the Management Board is 95.5% and the school strives to make every week a 100% attendance week.

Our Family Outreach Worker, Sally is a friendly face to talk to if you are having difficulties getting your children to school or their low attendance has been raised with you.  You will be invited into talk to us about any attendance that drops lower than we’d expect.  Guidance on helping your child get to school can be found at https://www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence/help-with-getting-your-child-to-go-to-school

School starts at 8:50am and ends at 3:15pm

Every class with 100% attendance gets a special letter from Mrs Dixon to congratulate them and all children have the chance to receive the award for 100% attendance at the end of the year.

Attendance stars and prizes are awarded weekly in the form of a raffle especially when attendance is good and the weekly attendance is rewarded with prizes!

Process for low attendance:

1: You will receive letters asking you to explain your children’s absence – every half term.

2: If the poor attendance continues you will be invited in to a meeting with the school nurse, Family Outreach Worker and the senior teachers.

3: If attendance does not improve you could be fined by the school, asked to fill in a CAF; if attendance does not then improve this could lead to a Social Services referral.

What to do if your child is absent from the Academy

Please phone our office and leave a message on 01509 212227 on the first day of absence leaving your child’s name, class and reason for absence.  You can press 1 on the answer phone to do this, remember to speak clearly.

This needs to be done every day by 10:00 am otherwise you will be contacted by text and your child will be recorded as unauthorised for the day.

When your child returns to school following an absence you will be expected to put in writing why your child was off in order for this to be put on to their records and kept in school files.  This may be used as evidence in a further enquiry and lack of engagement in the process will also be highlighted at this time.

Leave of absence during Term Time

Government guidelines prohibit Headteachers from authorising holidays during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.  Any holidays taken during term time are classed as unauthorised unless prior authorisation has been granted by the Headteacher.  Any holidays taken without authorisation will be subject to a £60 fine per child by the Local Authority.

Any periods of testing within the school will be published and ALL requests denied in these times.

The law on enforcing fines and prosecutions for poor attendance is set out clearly on this websitehttps://www.gov.uk/school-attendance-absence/legal-action-to-enforce-school-attendance
