Welcome to the Science section!

2013 - 2014:

Our first group of science club members for the year have had a busy time. So far we have watched our magic flowers open and grow, tested our forces and construction knowledge with some bridge building, build electrical circuits, explored magnetism and had a messy time with our corn flour mixtures. Wow! What super scientists we have at Beacon Academy.

2012 - 2013:

Years 1 and 2 took advantage of the good weather to use our outside space to investigate the statement, 'Why do some things sink and some things float?' A lovely afternoon was had by all.

To link in with our whole school topic, science this term has been all about animals:

Years 1 and 2 have looked at the differences between animals using their maths skills to sort and organise them agreeing their categories with their team mates.

In years 5 and 6 the animal classification system, habitats and adaptations were completed by an investigation into the chosen habitats and foods for a selection of mini beasts such as worms and woodlice (there were lots of squeals during the collection stage!).

As well as all of the activities in class, every Tuesday lunch a group of 14 children from all year groups attend Science club. This term after a few unsuccessful attempts we managed to produce something which looked almost like a bath bomb! Well done everyone for your perseverance.
